[HOWTO] Use your own domain name.

If you have not yet purchased your domain, You have a choice. You can book it through us, which will cost you #6.99 for a .co.uk and #10.99 for a .com, .net, .us, .org. Currently you'll have to Pay via paypal Pay XippY Here then raise a support ticket with the domain you want and details of the payment. If you buy through us we can provide you with email as well, on request. We will then do the rest for you.

Alternatively we would recommend purchasing it from either 123-Reg as their Control Panel is very easy to point your domain to your XippY site; or Go Daddy

There are 2 methods for your using your domain with your XippY Site.

Please use method 2 if you want to use your URL for email and FTP, thanks!

Method 1. Modify your domain Name Servers

You need to change the name servers to the following:

ns1.xippy.org (195.74.52.62)
ns2.xippy.org (195.74.52.63)

You may not even need to put in the IP address. Once you have done this please raise a support ticket via your control panel detailing what the domain name is and what you would like your site to run under e.g. www.youowndomain.com, etc then we can set it.

For 123-Reg  do this:

1. Login to Control Panel
2. Go down to Manage Domains and click "Modify Domain" next to the one you wish to change.
3. Click "Change Nameservers".
4. Put in "ns1.xippy.org" in Nameserver 1
5. Put in "ns2.xippy.org" in Nameserver 2
6. Press "Change Nameservers"
7. Raise a support ticket telling us what the domain is you want to use, we can then set your site to use it.

Method 2. Modify the Address A Record

If you are more comfortable with handling DNS, etc. You can modify the Address A record for "www" to point to the IP: 84.45.106.154 Once the domain is showing the XippY Deactivated Page then you can raise a support ticket via your control panel and we can set your site to run under that domain.

If you are having problems with seeing your site once we've made the change, like it still points to the people that you booked the name with then read the following:-

Sometimes DNS Records are cached depending on your ISP. So if you went to www.yourdomain.com it would look up what the IP address if for that and store it on your local computer so it doesnt have to keep checking everytime. Its usually 1 hour however some ISP's like to store it for longer to save bandwidth. You can clean your cache by clicking Start / Run then typing "cmd"

In the windows shell type:

ipconfig /flushdns

This will force a clear of your local cache and should help.
